As a man who wears many hats, Ryan MacRae ’09 has added yet another hat to his collection—father.
Ryan and his wife, Kamie Hagedorn ’01 MacRae, are the proud parents of identical twin boys, Robert Alexander and Benjamin Allen, who made their entrance Feb. 21, 2013.
Ryan MacRae has been a member of the SU Alumni Board of Directors since 2010. Having been involved with many organizations and events while a student on campus, MacRae has been able to give insight about what’s happening on campus and how our alumni board can affect students, faculty and staff.
After graduating from SU, MacRae became a substitute teacher for Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) in January 2010. He is also a substitute teacher for Winchester City Schools.
“Everyday is a challenge working in this classroom, however, I have enjoyed every assignment tremendously,” said MacRae.
Along with working with substituting, MacRae can be seen on campus and at many university events as he also works for Sodexo Dining Services, the exclusive caterer for Shenandoah. He is the receiving supervisor. Prior to this position, he was a cashier, caterer, catering supervisor and dining hall supervisor.
“In my position at FCPS I am thrilled when my students learn and understand what is being taught to them,” explained MacRae. “With Sodexo, I am gaining a lot of leadership experience by being a supervisor.”
MacRae is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Working with young boys through this program made him realize that he likes helping people, working with children and being involved in many different situations. In his positions at FCPS and Sodexo, he is able to do all of this.
Looking at his time at Shenandoah, he feels he has never left. While a student, he was the equipment manager for football and men’s lacrosse, worked with Residence Life, Colleges Against Cancer and Relay for Life.
Being heavily involved with his school, MacRae has had many memories. His favorite, though, is meeting the woman of his dreams, future bride, and now mother of his children, Kamie.
He enjoys being involved with the Alumni Board and giving back because Shenandoah helped him gain the experience he needed to be successful in the workforce. Being one of the younger members on the board, MacRae enjoys telling other young alumni about the Alumni Association.
And, he is so excited to introduce Shenandoah to his twin boys!
